Capitol Steps Comedy Show
Twenty-five
years ago, the Capitol Steps began as a
group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places
that employed them. To their credit, they have recorded 27 albums,
including their latest, Springtime For Liberals, have been featured
on NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS, can be heard 4 times a year on National Public
Radio during their Politics Takes a Holiday radio specials, and have
even had the opportunity to perform for the last 5 Presidents (6, if you
include Hillary)!
Most cast
members have worked on Capitol Hill; some
for Democrats, some for Republicans, and others for politicians who firmly
straddle the fence. No matter who holds office, there is never a shortage of
material. Says Elaina Newport, "Typically the
Republicans goof up, and the Democrats party. Then the Democrats goof up and
the Republicans party. That's what we call the two-party system."
Want to have
a “good laugh” over current political issues?
Here is your chance! The Capitol Step’s material is constantly being
updated; Following “hot-button” political issues like the Democrats' current
infatuation with Barack Obama in "A Leader Like Barack" (set to "The Leader
of the Pack"), or the latest opinions from Ann Coulter ("Loonies of the
Right"). No matter who's in the headlines, the Capitol Steps are equal
opportunity offenders.
