Foot & Fiddle
Keep The Country Dancing

Pat Cannon's Foot &
Fiddle Dance Co. presents American dance in creative new ways, in a dazzling
blend of clogging, tap, Irish step dance, lindy hop, square dance and rock
'n' roll. Foot & Fiddle takes traditional American dance, retains its
authenticity and gives it a contemporary flair.
America is the
birthplace of country music, swing and rock 'n' roll. Dance and music styles
that are now popular all over the world were born in America. In a show that
hardly stops to catch its breath, Pat Cannon’s Foot & Fiddle Dance Co. taps
out rhythms from the 40's swing era and the rock 'n' roll styles of the
50’s, while investigating their roots through an African boot dance, an
Irish celli, a Cajun two step and Appalachian clogging. Colorful costumes
swirl around this power-paced ensemble of dances and musicians as they
present and involve the audience in a historical survey of percussive dance.
Beneath her
mischievous hillbilly persona, Ms. Cannon is a tap dance artist and
choreographer who colors authentic folk material from the South and
Southwest with delightful tap technique. One is likely to see a rockabilly
dance number looking like a rock-influenced lindy hop, or a perky Celtic
step dance with a decidedly western swing. Regardless of the dance step, the
irresistible musical accompaniment stirs the audience into a whooping and
hollering frenzy.
Pat Cannon's Foot &
Fiddle Dance Co. has toured throughout the country and has appeared abroad
at such prestigious locales as the International Dance Biennial in Lyon,
France, and the First International Tap Festival in Moscow, Russia.
Since 1981, Pat
Cannon's Foot & Fiddle Dance Co. performances have earned generous praise
from critics, producers, and audiences nationwide. Company founder and
artistic director, Pat Cannon began as a champion clog dancer and banjo
playing square dance caller. Ms. Cannon and her company maintain the
original reason for the creation of American folk forms - to have fun.
